Creative meditations: On ways of seeing
A one day online retreat with Katie Sollohub and Vajradashini
I'm really looking forward to this one. I'll be co-leading it with artist Katie Sollohub, and it feels like a genuine collaboration between two traditions that have more in common than you might think.
Both art and dharma practice ask you to stop, look again, and question what you think you're seeing. A drawing exercise can crack open your perception just as surely as a meditation. A dharma teaching can send you back to your sketchbook with completely fresh eyes. That's the spirit of this day — not art illustrating Buddhism, or Buddhism explaining art, but the two in genuine conversation.
We'll have two live sessions together, with a long spacious break in the middle for you to wander, notice, and follow your curiosity in your own environment. Across the day we'll move between drawing, writing, simple photography, meditation, and reflection — letting each one shed a little light on the others.
You don't need any experience — in art, meditation, or Buddhism. All you need is something to draw with, a phone if you want to take photographs, and a willingness to look a little more carefully than usual.
All times are GMT (UK Time)
Session one: 10am–12pm
Session two: 4pm–6pm
(With a generous creative break from 12pm–4pm)
The fee is £50 full price or £35 concession, and you’re invited to choose the rate that feels appropriate for you. If finances are tight, please get in touch — we’re happy to discuss further reductions.
A day where art and dharma practice do what they've always done best: help you stop, look again, and see more clearly.
Katie is a good friend, and she loves the creative process the way I love dharma practice.
Whenever we get together, art and dharma seem to spark something in each other — and on this day retreat, we're inviting you into that conversation.
You can find out more about Katie on her website.
