What is Buddhism? An online taster session
Saturday 31st January, 10.30 - 13.00 Swedish time
with Vajradarshini and Dhammasiri
“Usually when we hear or read something new, we just compare it to our own ideas. If it is the same, we accept it and say that it is correct. If it is not, we say it is incorrect. In either case, we learn nothing.”
What is Buddhism? That’s a question that can be answered in so many different ways. In fact, there are probably as many answers as there are people practicing Buddhism. In this taster session, I’ll share what Buddhism and meditation are for me, and invite you to start exploring what they might be for you.
I’ve been practicing Buddhism for nearly 40 years now, and I can still see threads that were there right from the beginning. At the same time, I can clearly see how my understanding has changed over the years. The changing nature of reality is a central theme in Buddhism, and I’m sure my own ideas of practice will continue to develop. So maybe a better title for this workshop would be “What is Buddhism, for me, right now?” And I invite you to ask yourself the same question.

Is this session for me?
New to Buddhism
Yes, if you have no idea what Buddhism or meditation is all about, but are curious. No previous experience is needed to attend the session.
Practicing Buddhists
Yes, if you have your own Buddhist practice and are curious about mine. Everyone practices differently, and it’s great to be able to exchange notes.
Friends and family of practicing Buddhists
Perhaps your father, daughter, neighbour, or best friend is curious about your practice, but it’s hard for you to explain what it’s all about. Invite them to come along with you — it could open up deeper conversations.
Preparation
There will be a few short sessions of meditation so arrange a comfortable place to meditate, no special posture is needed. You could be sitting on the ground, in a chair or lying down. Dhammasiri will lead some gentle qigong movements so wear comfortable clothing. You might like to bring a notebook for any reflections.
This workshop is offered on a dana basis, which means giving what you can, nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds. Our suggested donation would be £20/£30/£40 depending on your situation. Read ‘How much dana should I give?’
Once you have made a donation we’ll send you a confirmation and Zoom link.
