Diary extracts Oct ‘23

My writing desk, Autumn, Stockholm

Dear friends,
I’m writing this from my desk in Stockholm, just in time for these yellow leaves. I’m home with Karin and the boys and finally have the right to stay here. It’s been exactly a year since I put my house on the market in the UK, bought Eddie the van and took to the road while waiting for my residency. It’s been a grand adventure and I am so pleased it is over!

It’s been a challenge to work from the van and have no long-term plans. Some days there’d be no internet, others no solar to charge my computer. It would be too hot in the van, then too cold. I’ve had ideas that I couldn’t follow through on, for videos, podcasts and collaborations. But I made it.

Thank you, dear community, for sticking with me! I’m looking forward to new adventures together.

Here are a few snippets from my diary:

Birds singing in the airport

Making my way through Stockholm airport yesterday, I could hear birds singing. Odd. I was looking around for a trapped bird, then I realised this was the airport soundtrack. Throughout all the cafes and shops, no music, just spaciousness and occasional bird song. It was one of those moments when you realise we could create a beautiful world if only we wanted to.

I used to be snobbish about ‘artificial’ things. Then I came across this quote from Laurie Anderson. “It’s like the Dalai Lama said, an artificial flower is just as good as a real flower because it reminds you of a real flower.” It’s true, the piped bird song in the airport was as good as real bird song because it reminded me of real bird song!
